Selecting The Right Cushion

Selecting The Right Cushion

Carpet Cushion or Pad provides warmth and buffers noise. A firm and resilient carpet pad is needed to form a good foundation for your carpet. Your comfort will be increased and the life of your carpet will also be extended. Pad will buffer sound and adds increased insulation, making your room not only quieter but warmer.
You are making an investment when purchasing carpet so make sure you check the manufacture's recommendations before selecting a carpet pad. Some carpet pads are not accepted by the manufactures and will actually VOID the warranty on your carpet. Improper pad selection can also affect the appearance of the carpet and may also cause buckling, wrinkling and can cause separation of the carpet seams and even breakdown the carpet structure itself. A general rule for most residential carpet applications is to choose a cushion that is in-between 1/4" and 7/16" thick with six pounds per cubic foot density. If you have chosen a Berber or low profile carpet, choose a cushion with eight pounds density that is no more than 3/8" thick.

Carpet cushion is made primarily from polyurethane foam, fiber or rubber and is available in a variety of styles and construction to fit your comfort needs. The type of cushion you will need will vary due to manufacture's warranty, carpet style, traffic levels and patterns.
